Biospringer Adds Bacterial Fermentation Capabilities with PTX Food Corp IP Deal

Biospringer by Lesaffre has acquired selected intellectual property and technology from PTX Food Corp, a US-based food ingredient manufacturer focused on bacteria fermentation. The deal extends Biospringer’s capabilities beyond its established yeast fermentation portfolio into non-yeast fermented solutions.

The acquisition includes selected assets related to PTX Food Corp’s Bioenhance product line. Biospringer plans to transfer the acquired technology and equipment into its existing global plant network.

“At Biospringer, we are driven by a clear vision to inspire joy, nourish communities, and protect our planet through better food for all. This acquisition is fully aligned with our commitment to delivering game-changing products that make a positive impact,” stated Carmen Arruda, Biospringer General Manager.

Broadening the fermentation platform

Founded from the combined expertise of fermentation businesses in France, the Netherlands, and Brazil, Biospringer operates as a division of Lesaffre, a French fermentation group with roots dating to 1853. The company currently supplies yeast extracts and fermentation-derived solutions used to enhance taste, nutrition, texture, and preservation in food manufacturing, with operations across Brazil, China, Europe, and North America.

The PTX transaction adds bacterial fermentation knowledge to that base, positioning Biospringer to serve food manufacturers seeking fermented ingredients that fall outside the yeast category. Bacterial fermentation is used across a range of food applications, including flavor development, biopreservation, and functional ingredient production.

Bacterial fermentation roots dating to 1972

PTX Food Corp was established in the United States in 1972 and passed into the ownership of Biorigin, a subsidiary of Brazilian sugar and energy conglomerate Zilor, in 2008. It has not operated as an independent entity since.

Arruda continued, “From ingredient innovation to biotech platforms, from tradition to transformation, Biospringer is poised to be a key player in the industry, leveraging our robust global footprint and strong local collaborations to bring groundbreaking ideas to market and solidify our role as a trusted partner in the pursuit of a more sustainable and nourishing future.”
