Merck and mantro Launch Spinoff Producing Edible Membranes for Cultivated Meat and Alt Protein Production

Science and technology company Merck has partnered with company builder mantro GmbH to launch EdiMembre, a deep-tech spinout that will commercialize Merck’s edible membrane technology for alternative proteins. The new company will expand the applications of the edible membrane platform, which enables the creation of complex tissue structures for scalable cultivated meat production and has also been used to explore high-protein plant-based pasta applications.
