Turion Labs, a new biotech platform formed by South Korea’s S&S LAB and Indonesia’s Future Lestari, has launched operations in Singapore with plans to build out a regional network of facilities designed to support early-stage biotech ventures. The initiative, introduced during Ecosperity Week, marks the establishment of what the company describes as Southeast Asia’s first full-stack biotech innovation platform.
Integrated support for biotech startups
Turion Labs combines shared laboratory infrastructure, contract research services (CRO), and regulatory assistance to help biotech startups move from R&D through to commercialization. The company’s headquarters is based in Singapore, while its first large-scale facility is set to open later this year in BSD City, Indonesia, within the Sinarmas Land Biomedical Hub, a designated Biomedical Special Economic Zone.
The Indonesian facility will provide modular laboratories, pilot-scale testing environments, and clinical development support. Although not sector-specific, the infrastructure is positioned to benefit startups operating in areas such as cell-based meat, microbial fermentation, and functional food biotechnology. These fields often face high barriers to entry due to equipment needs and regulatory challenges
“Southeast Asia is our launchpad for a connected biotech platform that integrates Korean R&D strengths with ASEAN market access and infrastructure,” said Dominic Jeong, CEO of S&S LAB Korea.
Future Lestari’s Director, Cynthia Krisanti, noted the platform’s potential to enable faster product development and improve regulatory navigation, particularly for companies working at the interface of science and consumer health.
The launch event was attended by government officials and industry stakeholders, including Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, H.E. Prof. Dr. Pratikno, who endorsed the project’s potential to contribute to regional health and nutrition initiatives.
A potential catalyst for alt protein innovation
While Turion Labs is not exclusively focused on alternative proteins, its infrastructure may offer critical support to startups working in plant-based innovation, cultivated meat, and fermentation-derived ingredients, which are sectors that require access to bioreactors, sterile lab environments, and costly validation processes often lacking in emerging markets.
The company has confirmed plans to expand operations into Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines. This regional growth strategy is expected to create a distributed network of biotech facilities that may serve as an enabling ecosystem for ventures in the alternative protein and sustainable food sectors, in addition to broader life sciences.
