Indian cultivated meat startup Biokraft Foods has secured ₹2 crore (around $230,000) in pre-seed funding. The round was led by the venture capital firm GVFL.
Biokraft will use the funding to accelerate its efforts to bring ethical, high-quality cultivated meat to Indian consumers. Using proprietary 3D bioprinting processes, the company has already developed cultivated chicken that is claimed to replicate the structure, texture, and nutritional profile of conventional chicken.
Biokraft also unveiled cultivated trout earlier this year, and aims to create a full range of cultivated meat products tailored to the tastes of Indian consumers. According to the company, the new funding marks a strong validation of its science, strategy, and long-term vision.

Solving the inefficiencies of meat production
The news comes after Biokraft hosted the Great Indian Cultivated Chicken Cook-Off last month, which was claimed to be the country’s first culinary competition dedicated to cultivated chicken. The company is also conducting tasting events, allowing people to sample its cultivated meat.
“Our mission is to harness biotechnology to build sustainable food systems that reduce climate impact, improve animal welfare, and solve the inefficiencies of conventional meat production,” said Kamalnayan Tibrewal, founder and CEO of Biokraft Foods. “GVFL’s support brings us closer to placing real, ethical meat on the plates of consumers.”
