Australian company Eden Brew has announced that Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has officially accepted its application for assessment.
The application covers Eden Brew’s non-animal Beta-Casein Protein Preparation (BCPP1), a functional and nutritional ingredient that can be used as a substitute for conventional dairy or plant proteins across a variety of foods. BCPP1 is reportedly nutritionally equivalent to the A2 beta-casein found in cow’s milk.
Significantly, the ingredient is said to be the first ever precision fermented milk protein to enter the Australia New Zealand regulatory framework. FSANZ has placed the application into a General Level 5 procedure, with the assessment process expected to take about a year. A public consultation is scheduled for April to May 2026.

“A testament to the depth of our science”
Eden Brew hopes that the application could help pave the way for future novel food proteins in Australia and New Zealand. The company previously secured $24.4 million in Series A funding in 2023 to develop its animal-free casein proteins.
“A tremendous amount of work and scientific rigour has gone into reaching this point,” said Eden Brew on LinkedIn. “Acceptance into assessment signals that FSANZ is satisfied our submission meets all high-level requirements, which is a major achievement and a testament to the depth of our science, our safety data, and our team’s relentless focus. We’re incredibly proud of this milestone and grateful to our team, advisors, partners, investors, and community who have supported Eden Brew’s vision of building the next generation of functional nutrition.”
